11.30 Trace analysis - from environmental to evidential, do we really need to detect everything?
Dr Jason W. Birkett, CChem F·¬ºÅ¿âapp, Liverpool John Moores University

Dr Birkett is an analytical chemist with 30 years’ academic experience involving the research and teaching of analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry and forensic chemistry within the University sector. During that time, he has been involved in the analysis of a range of materials from environmental matrices, including sediments and wastewaters, to ballistic evidence and drug analysis, both for forensic and public health purposes.  His presentation will cover selected studies, including some of his recent work at Liverpool John Moores University, exploring (and sometimes solving!) the analytical challenges encountered.
